The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is utilized to determine your eligibility for the Federal Pell Grant/ SEOG Grant and the Direct Stafford Loan programs offered by the U.S. Department of Education.
Apply here: www.fafsa.ed.gov, specify the SWIHA School code — 035933.
You will want to have your most recent year Federal Tax Return available to gather income information as required. After receiving confirmation and estimated eligibility from FAFSA, contact Admissions if you are ready to move forward with enrollment or the office of Financial Aid if you have more detailed questions about Financial Aid.
Grants
A Grant is Gift aid which does not have to be repaid. These funds are need based, going to the neediest students.

Direct Stafford Loans
You are not required to accept any loan. You may borrow less than the amount offered. Be sure to accept the total amount needed for the entire academic year (loans will be disbursed to the school to pay educational expenses first).
Types of Federal Loans
- Federal Direct Stafford Subsidized Loan
Direct Subsidized Loans are awarded on the basis of financial need. No interest is charged while you are enrolled at least half-time, during your grace period or during deferment periods. Stafford Loans currently have a interest rate of 3.4%% for undergraduate students for all loans disbursed on or after July 1, 2011.
- Federal Direct Stafford Unsubsidized Loan
Direct Unsubsidized Loans are not based on financial need. Interest is charged during all period, including while you are in school and during and deferment period. You may choose to make interest payments or allow the interest to accumulate while you are enrolled in school. Any unpaid interest will be capitalized. Stafford Unsubsidized Loans currently have a fixed interest rate of 6.8% for those loans disbursed on or after July 1, 2011.
- Federal Parent PLUS Loan
Direct Plus loans are for parents of dependent students and for graduate/ professional degree students. Interest is charged during all periods. Plus Loans help pay for education expenses up to the cost of attendance minus all other financial assistance. The interest rate is fixed at 7.9% for those loans disbursed on or after July 1, 2011. The borrower (parent) is subject to a credit check. Parents are not required to accept the PLUS Loan offer, and may borrow less than the amount offered by the school.

- All SWIHA/SWINA students are classified as first time borrowers for the Direct Loan program
What you must do to complete your application/ Master Promissory Note:
- Sign In using your FAFSA PIN at www.studentloans.gov
- Select Complete MPN (Master Promissory Note)
- Select the type of loan you are accepting (subsidized/ unsubsidized)
- Follow the applicable instructions
- Always print a copy of your MPN and save for your records
