Certificate of Excellence in Zen Shiatsu
True healing involves balancing the flow of life or "chi" to promote physical, structural, mental, emotional and spiritual health. At Southwest Institute of Healing Arts (SWIHA), our comprehensive 200-hour Zen Shiatsu program may be taken to fulfill part of your primary specialty requirements within some of our degree or diploma programs, to enhance your professional status, or simply to further your own personal growth and development.
Under the direction of master practitioner Lyn Matthew, you will learn a holistic healing system that balances the flow of life force energy through the channels and internal organs of the body to promote physical, structural, mental, emotional and spiritual health. Once successfully completed, you will be awarded a Certificate of Excellence showing completion of 200 hours of specialization in the field of Zen Shiatsu.
* NOTE: Certificates of Excellence are not necessarily designed to serve as stand-alone vocational training and may not prepare you for gainful employment if taken independently of a diploma or degree program.
What Is Zen Shiatsu?
“Zen Shiatsu” is a form of bodywork administered by the thumbs, fingers, palms, elbows, feet and knees. The professional Zen Shiatsu practitioner is trained to feel and intuit the condition of the body, particularly the circulation, by his/her hands in order to find imbalanced areas. The client remains fully clothed during the treatment. No massage oils or lotions are needed because rather than sliding along the body surface, a series of gentle specific presses are given along the meridian pathways.
It is understood that Zen Shiatsu stimulates the natural healing powers of the body. Obstacles to health are removed and vitality is gained, thereby lessening the symptoms of dis-ease. Advanced bodyworkers and massage therapists who utilize Zen Shiatsu techniques will enhance the longevity of their career by avoiding overuse of the hands, wrists, and thumbs.
