Reflexology

Southwest Institute of Healing Arts has an absolute passion for Reflexology training in Arizona, as well as throughout the country.  We are the home to "Toe Reading", which has taken the nation by storm with people waiting in line for hours for a toe reading and reflexology session. Our 200 hour Certificate of Excellence in Reflexology has been designed to be a part of the 600 hour Advanced Bodywork Practitioner program, as well as a specialty within the massage therapy programs.  The practice of reflexology does not require licensing in Arizona. Our reflexology program prepares students to sit for the American Reflexology Certificate Board exam as well.  Reflexology is a very popular and effective specialty of choice for the Mind-Body Transformational Psychology degree program and the 600 hour Mind-Body Wellness Practitioner program.  

Reflexology, also called zone therapy, is based on the theory each body part is represented on the ear, hands, feet or face.  By pressing or stimulating a specific area on the ear, hands, feet or face can have therapeutic effects in other parts of the body.

We teach: 

• The body is divided into 10 longitudinal zones—five on each side of the body.        
• Each organ or part of the body is represented on the hands, feet, ears, and face. 
• Massaging or pressing each area can stimulate the flow of energy, blood, nutrients, and nerve impulses to the  corresponding body zone and thereby balance the zone.

Reflexology is the physical act of applying pressure to the feet and hand with specific thumb, finger and hand techniques without the use of oil or lotion.  It is based on a system of zones and reflex areas that reflect an image of the body on the feet and hands with a premise that such work effects a physical change to the body.  We teach foot, hand, and ear reflexology can cleanse the body of toxins, increase circulation, assist in weight loss, and improve the health of organs throughout the body.  In our supervised student clinics we have seen success in relief from earaches, anemia, bronchitis, hemorrhoids, hiccups, deafness,  emphysema, prostate trouble, overactive thyroid gland, kidney stones, and much more.  Although we are always careful to emphasis and reinforce that no medical diagnosis or treatment is specifically the goal of the session.   We apply the theory and techniques of reflexology to more that just the feet and hands.  We include ears, face, and abdominal as well. We fully acknowledge the repeated patterns that exist throughout the body in what we term the body’s holograms.
