What Is Yoga Nidra?

Yoga Nidra is a branch of Yoga that has been gaining much popularity in yoga studios across the nation. The Sanskrit word Yoga means ‘union’ or ‘one pointed awareness’ and Nidra means ‘sleep.’ In Yoga Nidra, the body, mind and intellect are completely relaxed while one appears to be sleeping. The consciousness is actually functioning at a deeper level and the subconscious and unconscious realms of the mind open up. The subconscious and the unconscious mind are the most powerful forces in the human being. In Yoga Nidra you learn how to access these powerful forces to gain knowledge, cure disease, increase creativity and realize your true self.

Meet the Instructor

Nationally renowned teacher and recognized expert in the field of Yoga Nidra, Kamini Desai, joined our Spirit of Yoga community! For the last 20 years, Kamini has created an exciting body of teaching in Yoga Nidra by combining Western psychology, medicine, and Eastern philosophy. Kamini trained at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health and earned degrees in Anthropology and Psychology from Smith College and La Salle University. She was also a former President and Program Director of the Amrit Yoga Institute.
