Tui Na |
What Is Tui NaTui Na is an ancient form of Chinese physical therapy, some 2000 years old. As with many other holistic health practices, this style of Asian bodywork promotes the body’s ability to heal itself naturally. This ancient form of hands-on therapy encompasses the traditional Chinese medical theory that in order to maintain health, the body’s vital energy, or Qi (pronounced “chi”), must flow naturally and harmoniously throughout the channels in the body to support its own powerful healing abilities. This energy is channeled and stimulated through the application of acupressure, moxibustion, cupping therapy, and the use of traditional herbs. The word "Tui Na" combines the names of two of the hand techniques. "Tui" meaning "to push" and "Na" meaning "to lift and squeeze". This modality uses traction, massage and manipulation in conjunction with the stimulation of acupressure points. It is used to treat, or complement the treatment of, many conditions including musculoskeletal disorders and chronic stress-related disorders of the digestive, respiratory, and reproductive systems. Tui Na Chinese Medical Massage has a long history of clinical studies showing efficiency in treating chronic and acute medical problems. Tui Na uses finger pressure to activate the various points. Tui Na is effective in relieving pain and stress, stimulating the immune system and/or balancing organ systems for healing.
