Southwest Institute of Healing Arts is proud to be the only college in Arizona with an approved Registered Polarity Practitioner (RPP) program. Students who complete this program as a specialty or Certificate of Excellence may become nationally certified by the American Polarity Therapy Association (APTA). The 700 hour Certificate of Excellence/Primary Specialty in Polarity program is designed for students enrolled our massage diploma or Mind-Body Transformational Psychology and Holistic Health Care AOS Degree program, as well as for continuing education students. Polarity is a clothed modality and does not specifically require a massage license to practice the modality. The Registered Polarity Practitioner (RPP) program does include all of the classes in the 200 hour Associate Polarity Practitioner (APP) program. Polarity therapy is a "holistic" health system developed by Dr. Randolph Stone and has four distinct areas of technique by which life force energy can be influenced: touch (acupressure or point specific focusing), stretching and exercise, diet, and mental-emotional process. Dr. Stone Stone emphasized referred to Polarity as ‘energy medicine’ and used esoteric language such the "Breath of Life"- ki, chi, prana and life force from the many spiritual traditions from which he studied, especially mystic Christianity, Ayurveda, Taoism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Sufism and Yoga. In keeping true to Dr. Stone’s teaching Polarity students at SWIHA study "energetic anatomy" and work with these energetic patterns (similar to acupuncture meridians, and marma points). Various esoteric energetic patterns inherent in the body, referred to in Kabbalah, and other traditions, such as the 5-pointed star and 6-pointed star, are traced on the body and integrate consciousness and fully connect various part of the being during the 700 hour intensive RPP training. According to Stone, the purpose of life is "the fulfillment of consciousness”, which is the aim of SWIHA as well. ![]() Polarity therapy includes a sub-specialty of Craniosacral Therapy known as Polarity Cranial Unwinding Therapy. By gently working with the spine, the skull and its cranial sutures, diaphragms, and fascia, the restrictions of nerve passages are said to be eased. For more details on this part of the program refer to the 100-Hour Polarity Cranial Unwinding Certificate of Excellence. The Registered Polarity Practitioner Program is under the direction of Gary Strauss, Executive Director of Polarity Arts of California.
