 Aromatherapy - Therapeutic

Southwest Institute of Healing Arts (SWIHA) invites students to choose the Aromatherapy - Therapeutic Certificate of Excellence as part of their specialty requirements for the Professional Massage or Master Massage programs offered at the school, as well as part of the Holistic Health Care or Mind-Body Transformational Psychology degree programs.   This 100 hour Certificate of Excellence is often taken for continuing education credits or personal development as well.

Aromatherapy is a generic term referring to the use of essential oils, sometimes in combination with other holistic techniques. An essential oil is a liquid that is generally distilled (most frequently by steam or water) from the leaves, stems, flowers, bark, roots, or other elements of a plant.  Essential oils, contrary to the use of the word "oil" are not really oily-feeling at all. Most essential oils are clear, but some oils such as patchouli, orange and lemongrass are amber or yellow in color. Essential oils contain the true essence of the plant it was derived from. Essential oils are highly concentrated and a little goes a long way.

Our program covers the use of essential oils to balance or detoxify the mind, body, and soulduring Massage, Reflexology, Acupressure, Reiki or Hypnotherapy sessions.  Students will come away from this program with extensive knowledge on the properties of oils, fragrances, and scents; learn methods of extraction.  Students will learn the difference between true and synthetic substances, and be able to implement the appropriate tools for a desired outcome.
