Gone are the days when the Spa was a bare utilitarian swimming pool

or perhaps a fitness center with rows of equipment designed by the

Spanish Inquisition. As spa treatments and facilities around the world become

more plentiful, one becomes harder to distinguish from another. Only the

unique cultural, historical, and natural contexts of a spa site, unique design,

and programs can differentiate the spa experience.

This Certificate of Excellence in Spa Management is uniquely

developed to meet the demands of the burgeoning spa market.

Students will create and design their own spa complete

with a one year and five year financial business plan.

Operating budgets, income statements,cash flow analysis,

policies and procedures and human resource management, as well

as Marketing strategies, targeted customer profiles, facility design

and service menus.

The courses will teach students to identify the site and location characteristics

for a successful spa, understand how to research and identify a competitive spa

supply, and assess the strengths and weaknesses. Students will also learn about

challenges related to the competitive supply, and define existing demand

segments, growth trends and new demand sources. They will evaluate

comparable operations, calculate fair share analysis and market penetration,

create a profit and loss statement, and develop capital budget and calculate
return on investment.

Classes include Customer Service and the Spa Industry, Human Resources

and Leadership, Spa Finance, Fundamentals of Spa Design and Feng Shui,

Spa Portfolio and Business Plan.
