The Master Massage Program offered at Southwest Institute of Healing Arts is designed to far exceed the requirements for massage therapy training in most all states in the country. Our 1000 hour Master Massage Program  includes all of the core competencies required of a classically trained massage therapist, as well as the opportunity to incorporate two or three specific specialties, known as Certificates of Excellence, into this comprehensive program.  Your choices include specialties  such as  Aromatherapy, Polarity, Reflexology, Reiki, Spa Treatments  or Special Touch  This gives YOU an edge above other licensed massage therapists when applying for employment or starting a private practice.

This 1000 hour program has double the number of hours required to apply to take the National Certification to become a Nationally Certified Therapeutic Massage Body-worker. Many five-star resorts require 1000 hours of training in massage therapy to even be considered for employment.  You can see why we named it our Master Massage Program.  We truly want to help you become a 'master' in the field of massage therapy.

The Professional Massage Practitioner program offered at Southwest Institute of Healing Arts  exceeds the requirements for massage therapy training in Arizona. Many states require 500 hours to apply for a massage license.  Our 750 hour program will give you the core classes you need, with the additional hours used to choose one or two specialty areas  which interest you!

Completing one or two specialty areas will not only earn you your diploma for your program, but earn you a Certificates of Excellence in each specialty.  Employers constantly look for massage therapists who know MORE than the basic massage modalities. Holistic health-care is becoming more acceptable over traditional medicine, thus making specialty modalities, such as; Oriental therapies, Polarity, and Cranial Unwinding staples in places of employment.  We want YOU to stand out among your peers. We invite you to look at the choices you have as a part of the 750 hour Professional Massage Practitioner and choose one or two Certificates of Excellence.

Tui Na literally translates to "push pull" and is the name given to Chinese Medical Massage. Based on Traditional Chinese Medicine, Tui Na uses a variety of hand techniques and passive and active stretching to restore correct anatomical musculo-skeletal relationships, neuromuscular patterns, and to increase the circulation of Qi and Blood to remove biochemical irritants. Acupoints may be selected to rebalance and harmonize the flow of Qi and Blood through the organ meridians in order to facilitate healing and prevent further injury. As Tui Na does not usually apply any oils or use mechanical devices, it is not necessary to undress during a session.

Asian Bodywork Practitioner with Zen Shiatsu

Zen Shiatsu is a form of bodywork administered by thumbs, fingers, palms and elbows, feet and knees. The professional Zen Shiatsu therapist is trained to feel the body's condition, particularly the circulation, by his/her hands in order to find the imbalanced areas in the body.  From the Western point of view, shiatsu works directly to calm the autonomic nervous system, which has the effect of calming nervous distress and increasing resistance to stress. By helping with blood and lymph circulation in the body, shiatsu helps to maintain and improve muscle tone and healthy internal organ functions. It is believed that shiatsu can also strengthen the immune system. The shiatsu recipient is fully clothed during the treatment. No massage oils or lotions are used or needed because the practitioner does not slide along the body surface, but gives a series of gentle specific presses along the meridian pathways.
