Southwest Institute of Healing Arts offers a variety of continuing education courses ranging from 4 to 60 hours and covering a variety of modalities including: Massage Therapy, Aromatherapy, Shiatsu, First Aid, Reflexology, Chinese Medical Bodywork, and so much more. Many require this training for continued certification, while others simply choose to enhance the skills they already have.

Arizona Requirements for Massage Therapists
The state of Arizona requires 700 hours for a state massage license.

Arizona State Licensing Board for Massage Therapy requires a minimum of 25 CEU hours every two years. A licensee may complete a maximum of 12 (of the 25 required) continuing education hours from a correspondence or distance learning format.

Class Supply Lists
Body Work Class (BW): If the class is a body work class, be prepared and bring sheets, towels lotion, oil and bolster pillow. A body work class is defined as any class that is hands-on (Swedish, Myotherapy, Deep Tissue, etc.).

Lecture Class (LEC): If the class is a lecture class, bring paper, pen or pencil.
The following classes have specific supplies that the student will need to bring:

All Oriental Bodywork Classes: 1 sheet

Ancient Ear Coning: scissors, sheet, glass bowl or small metal pan, candle or lighter

Aromatherapy for Toning and Detox: sheets, 6 hand towels, 2 large towels, squirt bottle

Baby Touch: sheets, lotion, doll

Balneotherapy: swimsuit, paper, pen, snacks

Body Mechanics: BW supplies plus exercise mat or large beach towel, neck tie or soft belt or yoga strap, wear loose clothing

Breast Health: sheets, lotion, oil, bolster, 2 small towels, 1 large towel, small brush

Chinese Herbal Body Wrap: 1 large blanket, 3 large towels, 7 small hand towels, 1 small salt shaker, lavender aromatherapy, 8 oz. olive oil, small misting bottle (no sheets are needed for this class). This class has a separate kit that you must purchase from the instructor for $62.50 at the time of the class.

La Stone: 4-6 ounce squirt bottle (not a spray bottle) of alcohol or witch hazel, massage oil (coconut oil or almond oil are the best), bolster pillow, 4 flat sheets, 4 pillow cases, 5 large bath towels, 4 hand towels, 2 white tube socks, small ice chest with ice, snacks and drinks, (optional: ceremonial sage to burn and a feather fan)

Pregnancy Massage: sheets, lotion, bolster, small towel, talcum powder or corn starch

Salt Glow Massage: 2 sheets, 6-8 hand towels, 2 large bath towels, kit from instructor at time of class $15. Do not shave your legs 24 hours prior to class.

Spa Technologies: 2 sheets, 8 hand towels, 2 large bath towels, blanket (Optional: kit from instructor $100)
